With the sun beating down on your roof all day, you are sure to build up a lot of heat inside your home. This translates into a large energy bill if you need to run your air conditioner throughout the summer. Since your roof absorbs so much of the heat, there is an alternate material that will decrease the effect the sun has on your home called cool roofing. Cool roofing materials are manufactured in such a way that they reflect the heat back out instead of absorbing it. This has the added effect of increasing the lifespan of your roof since the sun’s damage to your roof is one of the major reasons for making it deteriorate.
If you decide to go with a cool roof, you have the option of replacing your entire roof with a cool roofing material, or if your current roof is in good shape, you could choose to have a cool roof membrane added to the existing roofing material.
